Your privacy is a personal and fundamental right. United Way of Greater Cleveland values and protects your privacy and places strict controls on the gathering and use of personally identifiable data.

United Way of Greater Cleveland uses industry standard practices to safeguard the confidentiality of your personal identifiable information, including firewalls and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption. We use return email addresses to answer the email we receive. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties.

All personal information submitted to United Way of Greater Cleveland is secured against loss, damage, modification, unauthorized access, or disclosure as required by Federal and Ohio Law. Information voluntarily provided by you will be protected by the appropriate computer, network, and Internet technical security controls at the employee and departmental level to prevent unauthorized access. Some of these security controls are: password and user identification verification, data encryption, confidential transmissions, secure storage areas, and audit trails.
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, United Way of Greater Cleveland implements and annually updates appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect.
To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or making corrections. In addition, United Way of Greater Cleveland employees are educated regarding the requirements of working with confidential and personally identifiable information as well as the consequences of misuse.

UWS.org is safe. There is no need to download any software to use our applications and services. Hence, your system's security is not compromised by their use, and your personal data - other than data you submit in the donation form, and the user-agent information that is transmitted by your browser - is never transmitted to our servers.
As a general rule, we do not log on-line behavior of individuals (other than normal logging of webserver 'hits'). However, in cases of abuse, hacking, unauthorized access, Denial of Service attacks, or any other harmful behavior, United Way of Greater Cleveland system administrators are empowered to log, track, identify, publish, and ban misbehaving individuals - even if this leads to banning entire blocks of IP addresses, or disclosing users' identities.
