United Way Teams Up with Cleveland State to Promote Text-To-Give Campaign
November 13, 2009 (Cleveland, Ohio)
United Way of Greater Cleveland will team up with the Cleveland State Men's Basketball Team to raise money through an innovative text-to-give campaign on Saturday, November 28 vs. Wichita State. The game will take place at The Wolstein Center at 2 pm and will air live on Sports Time Ohio.
During halftime, the announcer will ask the 4,000+ fans to text the word CHANGE to 864833 and make a $5 donation to United Way that will be added to their monthly phone bill.
"We are proud to collaborate with Cleveland State on this exciting new initiative," said Mike Benz, CEO and President of United Way of Greater Cleveland. "Texting to change our community for the better is easy. And we are grateful to the CSU Basketball Team for their help launching this new way to give to United Way. If everyone at the game participates, we have the potential to raise thousands of dollars in just a few short minutes to help those in need in our community."
"We are happy to work with United Way, and appreciate the help their programs provide in our community," said Katie Schneider, Marketing Coordinator for Cleveland State Athletics. "CSU students and faculty are committed to community service and work with several non-profit agencies throughout the year. It's rewarding for our students and good for our community."
Dollars raised through the United Way text messaging program will help support 202 health and human service programs that help 450,000 Greater Cleveland residents every year.
United Way of Greater Cleveland is one of the first non-profits in the region to embrace a mobile giving program.
