Direction On June 17, United Way of
Greater Cleveland's board of directors approved the
implementation of a heavily researched and well-reasoned
new community investment strategy more than six years in
the making. This new strategy focuses on some of our
community's most pressing health and human service

Pretending
Won't Change a Thing United Way of
Greater Cleveland's new posters are now available for
our annual workplace campaigns. Designed by
award-winning advertising agency Point to Point, the
theme of this year's posters is "Pretending it's not
real won't change a thing." See the

High School Students
Grant Funds to Nonprofits Would
you give teenagers $50,000 to spend? United Way of
Greater Cleveland does something like that every year
with a group of local area high school students, and
they demonstrate some very good judgment about the

Silent Auction Makes
Some Noise on Public Square
MAI
Wealth Advisors and Oswald Companies held a silent
auction that raised more than $6,500 for the United Way
Campaign on July 11 in the 200 Public Square
atrium. Downtown office workers bid on donated items
such as airline tickets, autographed sports
memorabilia, gift cards and jewelry. Special
thanks to MAI Wealth Advisors' Managing Partner, Richard
J. Buoncore, 2008 United Way Annual Campaign Co-Chair
for the Downtown and Southeast and Southwest Zones, and
the Oswald Companies' Chairman and CEO, Marc Byrnes, who
co-chairs the 2008 United Way Annual Campaign with Chris
Connor, Chairman and CEO, The Sherwin-Williams Company.

Dogs The Tribe takes on the Baltimore Orioles and
Minnesota Twins in the dog days of summer. Cheer on the Indians, save
some money on seats and help United Way support health
and human service programs in Greater Cleveland. The
Cleveland Indians are again helping United Way of
Greater Cleveland by selling discount tickets, with a
portion of each ticket benefiting the United Way

Day at the Patriot
Bowl College football comes to Cleveland August
30 as United Way of Greater Cleveland teams up with the
Greater Cleveland Sports Commission to offer discount
tickets for the Second Annual FirstMerit Patriot Bowl.
See Kent State University battle Boston College on
Saturday, August 30 at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Join
the West 6th Street tailgate party, watch the World War
II procession at half time and participate in the Field
Goal Kicking Contest. United Way will benefit from each
