JANUARY 2009

Happy New Year from all of us at United Way of Greater Cleveland.  We wish you and all your loved ones a year of happiness, prosperity and continued generosity to those less fortunate in our community. The New Year is a time for resolutions. Here are a few suggestions about how to start your New Year right by having fun, going where the action is, and helping support our community -- all at the same time -- through United Way.

New Year's Resolution #1: Enjoy the rewards

of giving.

The best way to give to your community is through United Way. No other nonprofit addresses such a wide range of needs, because United Way funds health and human service programs that help over 400,000 Greater Cleveland residents each year in every age group throughout our community. Give now, securely online, and ask a friend to donate with you or ask your boss to do a United Way workplace campaign. If everyone gives just a little, together we can make a better community for all of us.

New Year's Resolution #2: Shop online more and help our community at the same time.

Bid for Neat Stuff on eBay!
United Way's 8th Annual Auction on eBay promises an exciting array of fantastic items up for bid, including Continental Airlines tickets, sports events tickets and many other great sports and entertainment packages. The auction goes live online January 30 and runs through February 8, with proceeds benefiting United Way of Greater Cleveland. Beginning January 30, to bid on items, visit ebay.com/unitedwaycleveland.

New Year's Resolution #3: See more sports events and know that a part of what you spend helps those in need.

Fill the House for CharityHelp Our Tribe
"Fill the House for Charity"
Cleveland's favorite baseball club announced its new "Fill the House for Charity" initiative, committing $600,000 to support 13 local nonprofit organizations, including United Way of Greater Cleveland. At every Wednesday home game in the 2009 season, the Cleveland Indians will feature a local charitable organization to build awareness about its cause and also donate $5 for each game ticket the charity sells. On top of that, the Indians will donate another $1 of EVERY ticket sold for the game to that charity. United Way's "Fill the House" game night will be on September 30 against the Chicago White Sox. Remember to visit United Way's Web site at the end of February when tickets go on sale. Support your community through United Way by filling the Tribe's house in 2009!

New Year's Resolution #4: Volunteer to be part of something HUGE!

PGA Wanted: PGA Championship Volunteers
