High School Confidential: It's All Guitars!
This time around, GuitarMania includes a special segment just for high school students. It's All Guitars! is a project that introduces public art, guitars and community involvement to high school students throughout Greater Cleveland.
Fender Musical Instruments Corporation has donated 30 guitars for local high school art students to transform into works of art. Guitars are available to art classes on a first-come, first-served basis, and only one is available per school. Students are encouraged to work with each other as a class to develop a template of what their guitar should look like and then create the actual design on the guitar. As an added bonus for the students, one design will be selected by the GuitarMania Art Review Jury to be re-created by the students into an oversize guitar as part of the overall GuitarMania project. GuitarMania will notify the winning school within three days of the jury's decision. The oversize guitar must be completed by March 31, 2007.
The completed guitars will be publicly displayed with GuitarMania at the Rock Hall during Memorial Day weekend 2007 and at a site to be determined throughout the summer. After the public display period, each of the guitars will be auctioned at an event to benefit United Way of Greater Cleveland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's education fund.
In keeping with the spirit of the project, guitar designs must be family-appropriate, non-political, non-commercial and non-religious. Designs that do not meet these requirements will not be accepted.
Deadline to apply and submit a guitar design template is Friday, December 15, 2006. Failure to submit a template by the deadline will forfeit the high school's guitar entry. Guitars will be made available to the schools beginning in January 2007 and should be completed by April 30, 2007.
