Boys and Girls Club of ClevelandUnited Way Agency Profile:
Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland

Creating a "Positive Place for Kids" is what motivates Greg Ashe every day when he comes into work as the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland. It is a mission statement that guides an agency that strives to change the lives of hundreds of young men and women around our community each year.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland (BGCC) was founded in 1954 to provide quality programming that inspires and enables youth to achieve their full potential as productive, responsible and caring members of our community. This includes creative leadership and development programs, activities that promote health and fitness, services that encourage involvement in and an understanding of the arts as well as a wide variety of educational programs and activities. Boys and Girls Clubs is a United Way agency with a track record of programs that work to improve the lives of young people.

Thirty years ago, there were about 500 youth members of BGCC, with membership costing $1.00 per person and an organizational budget of $170,000. In the last 30 years, the success of their programs has resulted in an expanded demand for their services. Today, the Greater Cleveland Boys and Girls Clubs have over 6,000 members with six locations and annual dues of $7.00 per person.

The scope of the programs offered by the clubs and the importance they play in the lives of children each year has evolved as any dynamic and responsive agency must. Now more than ever, there is a need to enhance children's self esteem through the creation of relationships with adult mentors and through engaging young adults and children in wholesome after school activities. There is a growing need for safe places for children to go to when they are not at home or school and parents turn to the Boys and Girls Clubs in Greater Cleveland for care, guidance and support for their children.

Like so many United Way partners, BGCC is committed to making sure no child is turned away. Your generous contribution makes fulfilling these needs in our community possible.

Visit the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland Web site for a list of all of their locations and more information about their programs.
