Thanks for your interest in volunteer opportunities. At United Way of Greater Cleveland, we know your time is valuable, so we will do our best to help you find something that matches your interest, time and background. We have found that most volunteers want hands-on involvement with people and wish to be placed at one of our partner agencies engaged in direct service.
CONNECTING INDIVIDUALS TO VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

VOLUNTEER WITH A GROUP THROUGH DAYS OF CARING
The United Way Days of Caring program is at the
heart of connecting volunteers to local nonprofit
organizations. This is your opportunity to join more
than 2,000 volunteers who completed much-needed
projects at United Way partner agencies in 2007.
Utilizing its relationship with its partner agencies,
United Way matches individual and volunteer groups
with projects that fit their skills and interests.

VOLUNTEERING AT UNITED WAY
Investment Committees
Once the money has been raised, it then needs to be carefully distributed and more volunteers help to accomplish this task to ensure that limited charitable dollars are well invested in our community. Fund distribution volunteers serve on allocation panels and make these difficult decisions, and training is included in their time commitment. Volunteers agree to invest at least 25-30 hours a year in this work to become a part of our citizen review teams.
If you can make this kind of investment in improving the quality of life for people right here in our own community, please contact Ethel RoweDickerson, Community Investment, (216) 436-2219.
Organizational Assessment Committee
OAC volunteers work in teams to conduct annual assessments of all the agencies whose programs are funded by United Way. OA volunteers review documents submitted by funded agencies and occasionally conduct site visits as well. The time commitment varies but averages about 60 hours per year, although many of the review tasks can be done by the volunteer on their own. The term of service is three years.
The role of this Committee is to ensure that these agencies are stable and well-managed so that we can assure our many United Way donors that their donations are well-invested in these organizations and programs. If the OA Committee identifies areas of concern, we provide insights, ideas and technical assistance resources. One of our goals is to help strengthen the social services sector as a whole.
If you have experience with nonprofit management, organization development, fiscal assessment or related expertise and are interested in helping strengthen the groups we fund, please contact Sarah Spengler at (216) 436-2215.
Clerical Options
Additionally, some as-needed clerical opportunities occasionally arise at our downtown Cleveland office. If you would like to be called to help on an as-needed basis in our office, please contact our Human Resources Department via e-mail or by calling (216) 436-2113. We appreciate your interest.
