How You Can Help - How Your Donation is Spent How You Can Help

Investors in the Cleveland-area United Way can take pride in the fact that our total administrative costs continue to be much lower than the national United Way average and far less than many other charities. Because of United Way's volunteer involvement, the greatest part of your dollar possible, nearly 88 percent, goes directly to help people in need in our community.

Your gift goes a long way, too. The following are examples of what a gift of just $1 per week provides.

    • Ten packs of hearing aid batteries for a hearing-impaired person
    • A summer picnic for eight mental health patients
    • Twelve support sessions for an individual coping with loss of a spouse
    • Shopping and banking transportation for a wheelchair-bound person
    • A complete set of skill books for an adult student learning to read
    • A month's supply of specially-formulated nutritional supplements for a dialysis patient
    • Six hundred diapers for foster care infants
    • Six months of drug, alcohol and pregnancy programs for two youths
    • Breakfast for one student for the entire year in Karamu House's Day Care program.
