2005 Schools Poster Contest Winning Entry
|
The winner of the 2005 contest is Carrie Vichill, a fourth grader at St. Mary's School in Berea. Carrie's colorful poster was chosen from almost 500 entries submitted for this year's contest. Carrie's parents, Erik and Joan are so proud of their daughter's drawing skills. "I love my art classes. I think I got my interest in art from my mother who made drawings when she was in high school," Carrie said of her poster entitled "What Matters." The Vichills live in Olmsted Township and Carrie has four siblings, Emma, Abby, Andrew and Ellen.
Carrie's original drawing will be matted and framed. The design will be incorporated into posters, which will be distributed all over town. Additionally, Carrie's drawing will be used for other promotional purposes during the Schools Campaign.
Please join with the United Way staff in congratulating Carrie on her outstanding work!
About the contest
Each spring United Way of Greater Cleveland has a poster contest inviting all of the Greater Cleveland suburban, independent and religious schools to participate. The schools that choose to participate distribute posters to the third and fourth graders, ages 8-10.
The student must incorporate the United Way logo and slogan for the current year in their poster, creating their own unique design with use of colored pencils and crayons. Then he/she submits it to United Way by a deadline. Volunteers and United Way staff vote for their favorite poster anonymously.
The winning poster is reproduced, matted and framed, as well as thousands of stickers are produced from the winning poster's design. The poster also becomes the official logo for the fall schools campaign.
