    Measuring Success
    United Way Services has always focused on results oriented health and human services. In 1998, a process was initiated to provide agencies with a methodology for reporting outcome-based information for each UWS funded program. The purpose of the UWS Outcome Measurement Initiative is threefold:
    1. to provide a management tool for local non-profit human services organizations to be used to improve program effectiveness;
    2. to improve the human service delivery system;
    3. to improve the stewardship of funded programs to donors who invest in their community through United Way.

    Programs funded by UWS report information about the results or benefits experienced by consumers participating in program activities. This information is reviewed over time and compared against the programs' previous performance and individual program goals. Agencies have completed three rounds of reporting outcome based information on funded programs. UWS Community Investment volunteers began using outcome-based information as one of many sources of information that were factored in to the citizen review process for FY2004 funding decisions. Continuous training opportunities that focus on collecting, reporting and using outcome-based information are available to agencies' staff and UWS volunteers.
