Community Vision Council: Strong Families = Successful Children
GOAL:
To provide opportunities for families and children
to succeed.
PRIORITIES:
- Develop a comprehensive adoption system; coordinate
a child-specific recruitment program that creates an intensive, one-on-one adoption search; recruit
appropriate adult mentors for older children aging
out of the system.
- Promote family behavioral health in the prison re-entry population and their families.
RESULTS:
Adopt Cuyahoga's Kids. With the three-year CVC funding
of this successful initiative coming to a close, Adoption Network Cleveland, working with partner agencies, found adoptive families for more than 360 youths at high risk of aging out of foster care without a permanent family. In 2007 alone, the agency fielded over 4,000 calls on its Adoption Helpline, had 344 people attend general support meetings and provided training for 474 professionals and parents.
NEXT STEPS:
Promoting Family Behavioral Health
in the Prison
Re-Entry Population. Progress continues on the development of a strategy and resource plan for the project. A first draft of the plan was reviewed by the Vision Council Work Group, local service providers working with the re-entry population, a focus group of incarcerated women, State of Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction administrators and top management of three local correctional institutions. A revised version of the plan will be presented for approval at the Community Vision Council's first general meeting of 2008.
