United Way of Greater Cleveland
2008-2009 Annual Meeting
Campaign Co-Chairs Marc S. Byrnes, Oswald Companies Chairman and CEO, and
Christopher M. Connor, The Sherwin-Williams Company Chairman and CEO, announced a $40,548,061
campaign result at United Way's Annual Meeting, March 6 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.
The Shaw High School Band helped more than 1,000 people celebrate the end of the 2008 United Way
Campaign and the tremendous generosity of Greater Cleveland residents. Nearly 100,000 donors
supported the campaign.
"I don't think we could have found two more upbeat leaders to guide us
through this campaign," Sandra Pianalto, United Way Board Chairman and Federal Reserve Bank of
Cleveland President and CEO, said of the two campaign co-chairs. "They have maintained a forward
motion in spite of sad news at times about how the economy has affected our community and our
campaign; they have worked tirelessly and stayed positive throughout the year. They were an
inspiration to their team of campaign volunteers who also pounded the pavement on behalf of our
community," she said. "This is an extraordinary result."
The meeting was filled with excitement throughout. Dennis Chack, The Illuminating Company Regional
President, received the Volunteer of the Year award in recognition of his volunteer service, and
Jim Petsock, UPS Human Resources Manager - Central Ohio District, was named Community Partner for
his outstanding commitment to helping our community through United Way.
